Oh, The Glow

Posted by | Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

So I hear some pregnant women experience this amazing phenomenon where their skin literally glows. Me? Well, I’m more of a ‘still puking at 24 weeks’ kind of woman. This glow people speak of? I wish I had it and since I’m not one of the fortunate ones, I’ve learned how to fake it…and you can, too.

Cord Blood Banking

Posted by | LENS, Lifestyle, Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

When I was pregnant I heard a lot about cord blood banking and received many pamphlets from different companies offering cord blood banking services.  I didn’t know much about the process or the reasons to bank my baby’s cord blood, so I decided it was worth some research.   Cord blood is the blood that remains in your baby’s umbilical cord after delivery.   The blood is a source of stem cells that can be used in different medical treatments.  Cord blood and stem cells have been used to treat different ailments, including cancers, blood disorders, and immune diseases.  If needed in your child’s lifetime, he or she will always be a perfect match to the cord blood collected at delivery.  Cord blood banks cryogenically freeze the blood and hold on to it for you if ever needed.  When discussing the topic with other pregnant moms, someone told me that they weren’t…

My neighbors must think I’m crazy

Growing up with very curly hair, I learned at a young age how to prevent frizz with chemicals products.  I’ve since come to cherish the extra volume that comes with textured hair and use almost no product – except for the occasional spritz of hairspray on humid days.  Hairspray contains many different chemicals and it is not safe to inhale constantly.  My solution? I wear a mask, only use non-aerosol products, and I do not use it in my house.  Yes, I stand in my front yard with a dentist-like mask on and spray my hair.  I firmly believe that there has to be balance between doing everything said to be “right/healthy/perfect” and doing what makes you feel good and look good.  Other ways to cut down on chemicals in your beauty routine: Try using grape seed oil instead of lotion to prevent stretch marks. It’s all- natural, inexpensive, odorless,…

It Takes a Village

It’s funny to see how peoples’ roles change when kids come into the picture.  While my husband’s worries and priorities changed, his day-to-day life didn’t change that much.  He still worked the same hours, everyday.  He’s an amazing husband and father.  He changes diapers, he does nighttime bottles, and when my kids were newborns, he fed the first bottle in the morning before he went to work…which was heaven.  The difference of getting up at 5am and 7am is literally night and day.  Anyways, it’s been a blessing living in the same town as both my parents and my husband’s family. I always tell my mom how grateful I am for her company and help.  She remembers how exhausting this phase of life is and wished her mom didn’t live across the country when she had four kids in four years, and a husband who didn’t do any of the…

It’s a Boy!

Posted by | Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

Rory Gerard was born July 24, 2013 at 7:53pm.  As I predicted, this labor and delivery was nothing like my other two; however, Rory is just as healthy and perfect as Jack and Charlotte. I labored for 15 hours, had two different epidurals, and pushed one time; it was a long and painful labor, but a very easy delivery.  Overall, the emotions were the same.  Having a baby never gets old.  No matter how many times I’ve done it, or will do it, delivery is the coolest, most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced in my life and nothing can ever top it.  I absolutely love it. Of course, it’s easy to say that a month afterwards. Rory is a month old today and already so much bigger than when he was born.  It’s crazy how fast his first few weeks of life have gone. Having three kids in less than…

101 Things My Kids Have Taught Me: Lesson 100

Posted by | LENS, Lifestyle, Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

100: If Toddlers Could Vote, Mickey Would Be President. And Toodles would be VP.  I’ve been a pretty strict mom when it comes to TV viewing, but somehow Mickey entered my son’s life and there’s been no turning back.  I can’t pinpoint the exact time when Jack discovered Mickey, because I’m not even sure how he discovered Mickey.  I’m thinking it had to be about six months ago, because that’s when I remember this obsession beginning.  The marketing geniuses at Disney somehow got to my son and now Mickey is everywhere.  How do I get Jack to eat all of his peas? I tell him, “Mickey eats peas.” All of the sudden it’s “MMMMM peas! I like peas!”  On the flip side, if we’re shopping and Mickey is on the packaging, Jack screams says, “I need this!” He’s two.  He doesn’t “need” anything – besides love and affection, and the…

Seven Weeks

Posted by | Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

I started nesting too early. I still have seven weeks until I deliver and I’m completely ready for baby number three to arrive. I know I should feel reposed about this; however, I don’t know what else to do to satisfy my incessant desire to nest.

Oh, How I Have Missed These.

Posted by | LENS, Lifestyle, Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

Happy 2013! Big news in our household: Baby number three is due in July! Life was feeling too routine and easy as soon as Charlotte started walking, talking, and being more independent so my husband and I thought, what better way to add a little chaos to our family than to add another baby. After the initial thoughts of feeling so blessed to get pregnant so easily and quickly (as was also the case with our first two), the dreaded first trimester symptoms hit – CONSTANT nausea, vomiting, exhaustion, light headedness, shortness of breath, and did I mention exhaustion? I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, ENJOY YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY. The kids have been spending a lot of quality time with Daddy at work, potty training at Grandma’s, and holiday baking with Aunt Anna, and I’m eternally grateful for all of that. I have to admit, my babyQ…

Finding Out

Posted by | LENS, Lifestyle, Pregnancy Lifestyle | No Comments

You know that moment you find out you’re pregnant and you think, I can’t wait to tell everyone! That thought is soon interrupted by several more thoughts along the lines of Who do I tell first? How long do I wait to tell everyone? If I tell one person, I have to tell everyone. Do I have to tell my boss? I need to call a doctor. My doctor’s office isn’t even open right now. Those thoughts soon become overwhelming so you decide to pause and start thinking about what this means for yourself and most importantly…your baby. Now those thoughts start rushing through your brain. What can’t I eat? What am I supposed to eat? How much do I need to eat? When do I get to start eating a lot? Can I work out? Should I work out? What does this mean for my job? I need to…
